Members from West Lake, Lake Shore and the United States Coast Guard – Station Erie have stayed busy today on the waters of Lake Erie and Presque Isle Bay. Numerous calls for water rescues have been received today. The USGC successfully rescued seven people after their boat took on water and ultimately sank in Lake Erie. West Lake was unable to launch the zodiac boat due to 6-8 foot waves.
West Lake then responded to the area of Beach 1 for one, possibly two persons swimming in the lake in distress. 487 arrived with Park Rangers and found the individual to successfully make it out of the water on his own.
The third call came in for a vessel in distress in Presque Isle Bay to assist the City of Erie Fire Department with 13 souls on board. USCG – Station Erie and West Lake responded to the vessel to assist with removal of all on board.
Note: Members of West Lake also handled a water rescue yesterday and successfully rescued a person from the waters of Lake Erie.
**** Please remember, if there is a small craft advisory to take it seriously and stay out of the water!****
