At 13:06, West Lake was dispatched for smoke in the building in the 4300 Block of West 12th Street. West Ridge was dispatched for an Engine and Tower to assist, along with MPS.
Engine 482 responded upon dispatch. Ladder 489 and Engine 483 responded seconds later.
Engine 482 arrived on location and reported a three story, multi-family residential with nothing visible. Upon completion of the size up, Firefighter Mike Bracalento, the building manager and another tenant were exiting the structure carrying a male occupant of the apartment outside.
Firefighter Bracalento stated that they pulled the male occupant from the smoke filled third floor apartment, and that there was a fire and heavy smoke.
MP-6 arrived on location and took over patient care and transported one patient to a local hospital. Perry Hi-Way was requested by MP-6 and they transported one patient as well, unrelated to the fire.
Engine 482’s crew then deployed a 1.5″ line to the third floor. Ladder 489 arrived on location and their crew met up with Engine 482’s. Engine 483 arrived on location and laid a 4″ supply line to Engine 482 from West 12th Street.
Engine 482’s crew made entry into the apartment and had the fire knocked down in the kitchen within minutes.
Tower 479 arrived on location and went to the roof to check on conditions. Engine 472’s crew assisted with evacuation of the building.
— The men and women of West Lake would like to commend the two residents and firefighter for their quick action, saving the life of the occupant. —
