At 14:45, West Lake, MPS and USCG Station Erie were dispatched for a water rescue on Presque Isle State Park – Beach 11. Initial reports of two persons in the water.
Truck 487 responded moments after dispatch, along with Rescue 485 and Boat 498. Lake Shore Truck 505 responded and met with the crew of Rescue 485.
Truck 487 and MPS arrived on location at Beach 11 along with Presque Isle Park Rangers and USCG. Visual contact was established with multiple kayaks near the head of Seagull Point.
Captain 491 (Carne, A) established command. Boat 498 launched from Presque Isle Bay with three water rescue personnel on board. Crews encountered heavy ice conditions throughout the bay and channel.
Boat 498 arrived on location with the kayaks and notified command of two patients who had fell overboard off the kayaks. The crew from Boat 498 performed two separate rescues taking the patients to he shoreline of Beach 11 where crews from MPS, Engine 483, USCG and PISP Rangers met them with a mule for transport to the ambulances.
Lake City Fire Company was placed in service while responding along with the Fish and Boat Commission.
Boat 498 crew who performed the rescue: Chief R.C. Schau, Lieutenant P. Carne, Firefighter Bracalento with assistance from shore support Lieutenant Sennett, Lieutenant Kalivoda and Firefighter Hunt (LSFD).
Captain 491 had command.
