November 1, 2013 – In the early morning, West Lake, Erie Fire were dispatched to the Railroad Tracks on Pittsburgh Avenue for a train derailment. West Lake Rescue 488, Engine 483 and Engine 482 operated on scene with Erie Fire Engine 11, Engine 6 and the Deputy Chief 322. Erie County Hazmat was called to the scene as a precaution for any chemicals that may have been involved. Millcreek Township Emergency Management were on scene as well. Crews from West Lake and Erie Fire contained a diesel spill from the engine car. No injuries were reported, and the cars that derailed were hauling construction debris. Chief 480 had command of this incident. Fire Police from West Lake and West Ridge operated on scene with Millcreek Police Department.
While operating on scene, West Lake was dispatched for two other emergencies in the first due. Engine 483 was released from the scene and responded on those incidents and then returned to the train derailment.
